Christmas is just around the corner.....

I'm going to shock you all and tell you that we do not put up a Christmas tree in our house for Christmas. We choose to focus on the Christ's birth. When we were in Missouri for Rachel and Aaron's wedding we noticed that her parents had a nativity scene with presents rather than a tree. We have since adopted this for our Christmas celebration. These are pictures of our nativity scene this year.

Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas trees. I have actually been known to beg my husband every year to get a tree. I usually help my parents decorate theirs, but this is how we celebrate Christmas in our house.

It's so nice to find someone else who doesn't feel that a Christmas tree is an essential ingredient for Christmas. We had a tree last year, and have had one now and then over the years, but most years we have had just put up our manger scene and decorated around that. Ours is a wooden set that my husband made many years ago.
I hope you'll check out my Christmas Traditions meme, and consider joining!

Your Nativity is beautiful. We also haven't had a tree for many years. I've debated over it in my mind, but having little ones every other year or so has not made it feasible even if I decided too.
I read of taking a huge appliance box and cutting it in the shape of a tree, letting the children paint it and hanging it on a door. A day later perhaps, start making ornaments to glue on it. I may do this this year, with maybe the Jesse Tree idea.

Sincerely,
Linda

I love this idea, and your nativity is so simple and lovely.

I wish I could do away with the tree but I love the lights and colors, I'm a kid at heart. My husband would be just fine with no tree but he does it for us.

Anyhow, it's very lovely!

I love your nativity scene, it is so pretty! What is it made of? We have a wooden cut out that an elderly man bought for us when we got married. It is very beautiful. I still have the same little stash I did eight years ago from our first Christmas, it is enough for me=)

btw, I have added you to my follow this blog roll, but it keeps losing you--I am not being a snob=) I have put you on and I still have to go hunting for a link! I will try again!

Merry Christmas to you and yours!
