Johnny Cakes and Apple Butter...

We have been studying about the Revolutionary War and George Washington in our schoolwork. We made johnny cakes from a recipe provided with our curriculum. It said that an authentic topping for the cakes would be apple butter. The boys helped me make them. They were tasty (in a if you had no more food kinda way).

A great quote to consider this election .....

"Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost." -- John Quincy Adams

Going to Vote, Halloween, and no tv........

Peter and I are going to vote early today. To be honest, I still don't know who I am going to vote for. The only sure thing is that I will NOT vote for Barak Obama. My two choices are John McCain or vote for Chuck Baldwin with the Constitution Party. I have went over all pros and cons for either decision. If I vote third party is that a free vote for Obama, and if I vote for McCain am I compromising my personal values. I do not like John McCain. Out of all the men that were running in the primary he was my least favorite, and still is. I really haven't said anything about this election, but as it nears I guess it is time to speak my mind. I believe (biblically) that Sarah Palin should be focusing on raising and training her children than running for vice president of the United States. The were tons of men that had her same values that could have been picked for a running mate. As Christians, we were horrified at a Hilary presidency, or that a woman would be our president, but with Sarah Palin we are quick to "go with the flow for the sake of the party." I am not saying Sarah Palin is not qualified, (which I think she is) or is capable of being vice president. I just personally feel that she should consider her role as a wife and mother first. Is it right that we have to always choose between the "lesser of the two evils?" Should we start trying to vote for the real candidate of our choice? Chuck Baldwin of the consititution party is right down the line with our values. Has the media so indoctrinated us that there really is only two parties of choice. I don't know.........I let you know what I decide tomorrow.

Tonight we are taking the kids to Billy Bob's to play games and have pizza during trick or treat hours. They always have a blast. We are usually the only ones there, which is great!

We are considering getting rid of our cable, in turn our t.v. Does anyone else not have t.v.? How do your children do? Is there a long adjustment period?

Well, I'd better get Liberty. I promise not to get political again for another 4 years!

I've been tagged......

I have been tagged twice and am just now getting around to it, so I will post 12 random things about myself. I was tagged by Rachel and Patti.

Here are the rules...
1-post the rules
2-write 6 random things about yourself
3-tag 6 people at the end
4-taggers start with rule #1

1. I hate bananas! I like banana flavored things, but to eat a banana would be totally gross. I guess it is a texture thing.

2. I am our church's piano player. I have had that position for 9 years. I did take a break for about 6 months when I was pregnant with Liberty, but am now back to tickling the ivories.

3. Both my brothers are leaving for Iraq in December. Christopher and Benjamin will leave for Iraq at the same time, but will not be in the same area. Please pray for their safety and our family.

4. Both my boys weighed the exact same weight at birth. 7 lb. 11 oz. I often wondered how often that happenes. We were going for a third, and thought Liberty would be around the same weight, but she was 9 lbs. 5 oz. I was totally shocked! I thought girls were smaller.

5. My husband plays the accordian. (no joke)

6. I have a phobia about seeing people I know at the store. Sometimes I will avoid them altogether (i know, weird)

7. I hate change. I do not deal well with change. I don't know if it the perfectionist in me, but it take me awhile to adjust.

8. Dr. Pepper is always me drink of choice.

9. I LOVE to cook!!!

10. My front tooth actually broke off in someone elses head and they had to get it removed at the hospital.

11. I attended public school for 11 years.

12. I hope to homeschool my children till college.

I don't think I know 6 people to tag.....I am going to tag my imaginary blog friends

1. Minnie Mouse
2. Daisy Duck
3. Cinderella
4. Jasmine
5. Belle
6. Bessie (off of the Mighty B) (I think that cartoon is hilarious!)

A wonderful day!

It has been a wonderful day today. Things have not gone as planned today, but I have so much to be thankful for that I am not going to let the devil steal my joy today! God has blessed me with the greatest husband in the entire world, beautiful children, a home to make my own, and health to do what He has commanded me to do!

Thank you Lord!!!

We're Back!!!!

Hey Guys! We're back home! We got here about 8:20 p.m. last night. We had a great time. I wish it could have lasted longer, but we had to come back home to our "vacation-like" home life {ha ha ha}

Sorry....I had to leave you for a second...I was being interviewed by Channel 13 news. NOT JOKING... We've been having alot of problems with our trash pick up, and they were doing a story about it....anywho.....just another day in my life....NOT!

to be continued a little later....

I have returned. We did have a great weekend. I got some rest, and I am ready to start school again. We have a super busy week ahead. I think we will be busy till Christmas. I am adding some additional photo at the bottom. See ya!

Fall Break Time!!

It is officially fall break time for the Scheer Joy Homeschool Academy. We have completed 10 weeks of school, and we need a break! Today the students and I are going to goodwill, Target, and to fall clean the house! Tomorrow we are packing for our trip. We are going to Peter's parents house in South Carolina. I am so excited because we are going to drive to Myrtle Beach for the afternoon! Schoolwork will not resume until next Wednesday!

School has been going great! We definately have a full schedule. Something people don't realize is the homeschooler have to work household stuff in with a full day of school. Granted a full day of homeschool does not take as long as a regular day of normal school. Alot of things in my house get left to another time to do (cleaning wise). Today is a day we will try to catch up!

I hope everyone has a blessed day today!

Kmart is bringing back layaway!

I just saw the funniest commericial on tv. Kmart had a whole commercial dedicated to their layaway department. Layaway was really big here in WV until everyone started getting credit cards. My mom always layed away our christmas present, school supplies ect.... Once everyone had credit cards, layaway became very uncool. I guess with the credit crisis layaway is back in. My sister-in-law will rejoice because she was still laying away thing up to 2 years ago.

LAUNDRY UPDATE....I wanted to give you all an update on the laundry pile. It is now folded and put away. Yet it starts again.......

Is anyone else a perfectionist or is it just my personality quirk. I am such a perfectionist that I am driving my husband, my self and children crazy. Anyone have any suggestions on how to deal????

Well, better go, might post more later!

Nothing new....

Nothing new is happening around here...There is something great happening though. I finally after 9 weeks of school, feel like we are getting in a routine. Praise the Lord! Or maybe I decided to not be so hard on myself. I haven't decided which it is. Oh well, I just glad it is happening!

I have a question for all of you.....Have you changed anything or doing something different is regard to the current economic situation? We (as a family) have really been thinking about making some changes, I wondered if maybe you were too. Do you have any grocery tips or frugal things that help your family out? I am looking forward to your replies!

Love to you all!

The One and Only Genuine Orginial Family Band..

If you have never seen the movie, "The One and Only Genuine Orginial Family Band" try to find it. It was made by Disney in 1968. It is a must see, especially around election time. It has many stars in, but my favorites has to be Leslie Ann Warren and John Davidson. They star in another of my all time favorite movies, "The Happiest Millionaire". If any of you are a member of NetFlix or another company, try to rent this movie! We love It!

Pump Up the Fun!

Our family attended a birthday party of a little girl in our church last nght. It was at a place in Barboursville called Pump up the fun. It was full of indoor inflatables. The kids had a blast! The Simple Woman's Daybook

Outside my window....It is a beautiful fall day, and the tomatoes are ripening.

I am hoping...Everybody fares well from shots!

I am reading... KJV Bible, "Washington's Lady" by Nancy Moser, "Way of the Master" by Ray Comfort

I am creating..a stitchery for my kitchen

I am hearing.. Jacob and Liberty play beside me, and sounds of traffic outside my window.

Around the house...Dishes need done, and Laundry is piled up anxiously awaiting my attention

On of my favorite things...DR. PEPPER!

A few plans for the rest of the week....tonight-birthday party, wed.- church, fri. - cookout with family.

A normal day....

today is basically a normal day in our house. Nothing usual or different. We had a great Bible time today in school. They boys really got into it. We have been studying George Washington and the boys made a tri-cornered hat, which they thought was fun.

Tomorrow the kids (all the kids) are going to grandma's to spend the night. This will be the first gime Liberty has slept over at anyone's house. I'll either go shopping or my s-i-l wants to go to the pumpkin festival.

Saturday, Peter and I are attending a Way of the Master conference with our church. It is the ministry of Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron (Growing Pains). I am so excited! I am excited for the spiritual experience, but also to see Kirk Cameron!
Their website is www.wayofthemaster.com.

E-mealz

Hey Guys! I wanted to share with you about a new program I joined. It is called e-mealz. I don't remember how I found it, but I read somewhere that it was approved and recommended by Dave Ramsey, so I checked it out. It is a meal plan based on what is for sale that week at your store of choice. I picked Kroger because I normally shop there. They also offer Wal-mart and other stores. They also have weight watcher plans, low-fat, low-carb, 2 people plans, and 4-6 people plans. Every Sunday I download their menu plan and shopping list. It is may third week. The meals are actually real meals my family will eat. For example. Monday night - Baked Pizza rolls and salad. Tomorrow night- cheese tortellini casserole, green beans and french bread. It is $15.00 for 3 months. Not a bad investment at all! There is a link for e-mealz at the bottom of my blog. I hope you check it out! I love it!

Peter and I have been following Dave Ramsey for about 2 years. Slowly but surely we are getting out of debt. With the Lord's help we hope to someday be "debtfree!"
